This was only applicable to applicants who already have previously given their biometrics while making any other immigration/visa application in last 10 years.

PR applications submitted prior to June 14, 2023 and meeting the above requirement will continue to be processed with biometrics exemption. So all the foreign nationals applying for permanent residency (PR) will now have to submit their biometrics.

What are biometrics?

Biometrics are a person’s distinctive physical characteristics that can be used to identify them.

In the context of Canadian immigration, biometrics refers to fingerprints and a photograph, which are required for Canadian immigration.

Why does Canadian immigration take biometrics?

Biometrics are essential for establishing an individual’s identity. Despite the fact that this may not seem like an essential measure at the moment, the Canadian government advises that biometrics contribute to the safety of Canadian immigrants in multiple ways.

Having biometrics on file, for instance, makes it more difficult for someone to commit identity theft by fabricating, swiping, or using your identity.

In addition, biometrics facilitate the resolution of issues or mistakes that may arise when a person’s name, birthdate, and/or place of birth are similar to those of another individual.

I am on work permit in Canada. Do I need to give biometrics if I am applying for PR after June 14; although, I gave my biometrics 4 years ago?

If you are applying for permanent residency under family class or economic class or refugee cases after June 14, 2023 and you’re between 14 and 79 years old, then you need to give your fingerprints, even if you already gave the biometrics and they’re still valid.

Families are meant to be together, especially during life’s big moments like moving to a new country. That is why Canada is working to help families reunite more quickly and easily, and support themselves once in Canada.

Today, the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, joined by the Honourable Hedy Fry, Member of Parliament for Vancouver Centre, announced new measures to strengthen family reunification, including

• faster temporary resident visa (TRV) processing times for spousal applicants
• new and dedicated processing tools for spousal TRV applicants
• a new open work permit for spousal and family class applicants
• open work permit extensions for open work permit holders expiring between August 1 and the end of 2023

Minister Fraser announced faster temporary resident visa (TRV) processing and more considerate application measures so that families can be together sooner while they wait for their permanent residence to be finalized. Going forward, most of these applications will be processed within 30 days, and applicants will benefit from processing measures specific to their circumstances as spouses and dependants. Many applications have already been processed using these new tools. Within this cohort of applicants, we have seen an approval rate of 93%.

Once in Canada, newcomers often seek jobs to support themselves and their families. That is why Canada has also made open work permits available for spousal applicants and their dependent children who reside with their sponsor in Canada and have temporary resident status. Spouses, partners and dependants are now able to apply for and receive an open work permit as soon as they submit a complete permanent residence application under the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class (SPCLC) or other family class programs.

Finally, Minister Fraser announced that spousal applicants, along with other open work permit holders, whose open work permits expire between August 1 and the end of 2023, will be able to extend their work permits for an additional 18 months. A similar option was recently offered to many with expiring post-graduation work permits.

Immigration will continue to play a vital role in addressing Canada’s labour shortages, and together, these initiatives deliver on the Minister’s mandate letter commitment to strengthen family reunification by facilitating temporary resident status to spouses, partners and dependent children waiting for permanent residence.

Stage 1 will enable family members of workers coming to Canada through the high-wage stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program or the International Mobility Program to apply for an open work permit .

Stage 2 aims to expand the measure to the family members of workers from the low-wage stream of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, following consultations.

Phase 3 will include consultation with agricultural partners and stakeholders to assess operational feasibility for expanding the measure to family members of agricultural workers.

Immigration will continue to play a vital role in addressing Canada’s labour shortages, and the Government of Canada will continue to implement policies aimed at helping employers with their staffing needs across all skill levels.

Hôm nay, 11-10-2022, IRCC vừa ra thông báo sẽ gửi thư mời nộp hồ sơ cho một số lượng lên đến 15,000 bộ trong 2 tuần tới.

Do số lượng đăng ký bảo lãnh ông bà, cha mẹ từ 2020 còn rất lớn, Bộ di trú Canada sẽ chỉ gửi thư mời đến những người bảo lãnh (con, cháu) được chọn ngẫu nhiên này thay vì mở mới cho những người bảo lãnh mới. 

Các anh chị đã nộp ý định bảo lãnh trong năm 2020 lưu ý kiểm tra email thường xuyên để không bỏ lỡ thư mời quan trọng nhé, bao gồm cả thư mục rác và thư mục spam/ junk.

Các anh chị chưa đủ điều kiện bảo lãnh ông bà cha mẹ hoặc đủ điều kiện nhưng chưa được mời thì có thể nộp xin Super visa – loại visa cho phép ra vào Canada nhiều lần, và có thể ở lại Canada đến 5 năm liên tục, và gia hạn thêm 2 năm nữa sau đó (ở liên tục trong Canada đến 7 năm – không cần ra khỏi Canada)
