Ontario announces list of occupations eligible for permanent residence under the RCIP in 2026
Communities in Ontario participating in the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP) have officially announced their priority occupations and fields for 2026. This is one of the pathways to Canadian immigration with a clear job offer, particularly suitable for skilled workers and international students with work experience.
If an applicant has a job offer that matches the labor needs of their community, they can apply for permanent residence (PR) through this program.
What is RCIP?
RCIP – Rural Community Immigration Pilot is a Canadian federal immigration program, launched in 2025, aimed at addressing labor shortages in rural and northern communities (outside Quebec).
Basic process:
- Candidates who have received a job offer from a designated employer.
- Community recommendation
- Applicants submit their PR applications to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Ontario communities to join RCIP in 2026
Ontario has five communities participating in RCIP, including:
- Thunder Bay
- North Bay
- Sault Ste. Marie
- Sudbury
- Timmins
Each community determines its priority occupations based on actual labor needs.

General requirements for applying for PR through RCIP
Candidates need to meet the following requirements:
- Job offer from the designated employer
- Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience (1,560 hours / last 3 years)
- English/French proficiency level (Club):
- TEER 0–1: CLB 6
- TEER 2–3: CLB 5
- TEER 4–5: CLB 4
- Canadian or ECA qualification (if studying outside Canada)
- Proof of financial resources for immigration: From CAD 10,507 (single) to CAD 27,806 (family of 7)

Does RCIP allow applications for work permits?
