TOEFL Essentials To Be Accepted For Canadian Permanent Residence Applications

Bộ Di trú, Tị nạn và Quốc tịch Canada (IRCC) sẽ chấp nhận kỳ thi TOEFL Essentials trong tương lai gần. Hiện tại, IRCC chưa bắt đầu áp dụng, nhưng sẽ cập nhật thông báo chính thức trên website của mình khi kỳ thi này chính thức được chấp nhận.

This is an important change that will give Canadian immigration candidates, especially economic candidates, more options beyond the current exams.

Who will benefit from this change?

According to the announcement from ETS - the organization that organizes the TOEFL exam, TOEFL Essentials will apply to economic settlement programs managed by IRCC, including:

• Programs under the Express Entry system:
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP – Chương trình lao động tay nghề liên bang)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP – Chương trình thợ lành nghề liên bang)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC – Chương trình kinh nghiệm Canada)
• Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP – Chương trình định cư Đại Tây Dương)
• Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs – Chương trình đề cử tỉnh bang)

  Note: Since PNPs are administered by each province, the implementation of TOEFL Essentials may vary by province.

About the TOEFL Essentials Test

Other English tests accepted by IRCC

• IELTS (International English Language Testing System) – familiar to many candidates.
• CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program) – an exam developed by Canada.
• PTE Core (Pearson Test of English) – recently accepted.

Conversion scale

IRCC uses the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) system to assess English proficiency. This is a standardized scale from various tests, to determine whether an applicant meets the language requirements of the immigration program.
