VISITOR VISA

Tourist visa is the official document issued by IRCC attached to your passport, proving that you are eligible to enter Canada. Most travelers require a tourist visa to visit Canada. You may also need a tourist visa if you have a layover at a Canadian airport on your way to your final destination.

HOW LONG CAN YOU STAY?

Most tourists are allowed to stay in Canada for up to 6 months. At the port of entry, border officials may permit you to stay for less or more than 6 months. In such cases, they will specify the date by which you must leave Canada in your passport. They may also issue you a document called a "visitor record," which indicates the date you must depart Canada. If they do not stamp or write anything in your passport, you may stay for up to 6 months from the date you entered Canada or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. If you need a stamp in your passport, you can request the border official to stamp it at the port of entry. If you arrive at an airport port of entry and only go through the kiosks, you can request a stamp after completing the kiosk process.
Make sure you need a tourist visa before submitting your application.
"You may need a tourist visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) depending on:"
  • The type of passport/travel document you will be using
  • The country that issued your passport/travel document
  • Nationality
  • The method of transportation to Canada

1. Legal permanent resident of the United States only need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to fly to or transit through a Canadian airport. They must present a valid Green Card and passport when checking in for immigration.

2. Visa-exempt travelers
Travelers with eligible nationalities only need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to board a flight departing to Canada. However, these travelers do not need an eTA if entering Canada by land or sea, such as driving from the United States or entering Canada by bus, train, boat, or cruise ship.
