OWPS: How Are Language Points Calculated?
Ontario Workforce Priority Stream (OWPS) là một dòng thuộc Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), sử dụng hệ thống Expression of Interest (EOI) để xếp hạng ứng viên.

Language score in OWPS
Candidates can receive a maximum of 15 points for Official Language Ability. The score is determined based on the lowest CLB level across the four skills: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking.

For example, if a candidate achieves CLB 9 in Reading, Listening, and Speaking but only CLB 7 in Writing, the Official Language Ability score will be calculated based on CLB 7, which corresponds to 8 points.
Do you get extra points for knowing both English and French?
Yes. This is a separate scoring criterion called "Knowledge of Official Languages":

To receive 10 points for the two official languages, candidates must achieve a minimum of CLB 6 in all four skills for both English and French.
Therefore, the total language-related score may include both Official Language Ability and Knowledge of Official Languages.
What is CLB ?
The CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks) is the system used by Canada to describe learners' English proficiency. Results from accepted language tests can be converted into the corresponding CLB levels.
For OWPS, candidates should pay attention to individual skill scores rather than just the overall score, as the skill with the lowest CLB level determines the Official Language Ability score.
Foreign language skills are not the only factor.
The OWPS EOI score is also calculated based on various other factors, such as occupation, salary level, work experience, educational background, work location, income, and legal status in Canada.
Therefore, a high language score does not guarantee receipt of an Invitation to Apply. Ontario selects candidates based on their overall profile and the program's needs.
However, foreign language proficiency is one of the factors that candidates can proactively improve. Raising the lowest CLB level across the four skills can help increase the EOI score.
