On March 15, 2024, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) disclosed crucial details regarding the annual provincial nomination selections for 2023, shedding light on the prospects for individuals seeking permanent residence (PR) this year.

OINP stands as an excellent option for Express Entry candidates, international students, and those with Canadian job experience, whether acquired within the country or abroad.

Notably, OINP witnessed a significant increase in its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allotment in 2023, reaching 16,500 compared to 9,750 in 2022.

Nevertheless, by December 2023, OINP had exhausted its annual provincial quota for permanent residency nominations designated by the federal government.

Overview of All the OINP Nominations

Due to persistent high demand, the OINP issued its highest number of nominations ever recorded in 2023.

Notably, nearly 4,500 nominations were granted to skilled tradespeople, marking a historic milestone for the program. Approximately 28% of all nominations were allocated to individuals with either a job offer or employment experience in various skilled trades including:

  • Welders and related machine operators
  • Telecommunications installation and repair workers
  • Supervisors, motor transport and other ground transit operators
  • User support technicians
  • Construction millwrights and industrial mechanics

Moreover, the OINP extended nominations to over 2,000 healthcare workers, aiming to address the industry's labor shortage—a record-breaking figure in the organization's history. Among these nominations, healthcare professionals, including those listed below, accounted for slightly over 12% of the total nominations.

  • Pharmacists
  • Family doctors and general practitioners
  • Dentists
  • Nurse assistants, orderlies, patient service associates
  • Registered nurses, and registered psychiatric nurses

Over 5,000 people, or about 33% of the total nominations, were from the IT industry. Among them were:

  • Software engineers and Designers
  • Software programmers and developers
  • Computer and information systems managers
  • Data scientists
  • Database analysts and administrators
