PTE Core versus other IRCC accepted language tests

On January 30, the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada) announced the acceptance of the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Core for all immigration programs requiring a language examination, except for the Student Direct Stream.

The PTE Core now stands as the third viable option for English language testing in permanent residency applications. The other two options include the CELPIP General Test and the IELTS General Training.

Additionally, candidates have two French language testing options to obtain their Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score: the TEF Canada: Test d’évaluation de français and the TCF Canada: Test de connaissance du français.

Each accepted language test employs a distinct scoring system that correlates to an equivalent CLB score.
